Matthew Knowles was born in the year 1952. He has 2 degrees, one in Economics and the other one in Business Administration. He has an MBA in Strategic Planning and Organizational Culture. This is someone that is very studious. And he enjoys educating himself. It’s always good to have a family member that is educated and knows what they are talking about. That is very important. It can make a lot of difference when it comes to it. He began his career when it comes to Sales of office in Medical equipment. He then moved to Houston in 1976 and worked for Xerox corporation for 10 years. It was in the Medical systems sales division.
He then worked in Neurosurgical sales. Matthew then left the company to devote himself when it comes to the Music company. He established including Music World Gospel, Music World Kids, and Music World Country/Compadre. He also had joint ventures with Sony Music. Matthew then started managing Destiny’s Child. By 1997 he got them a record deal with Columbia Records. When it comes to their success. It took them 8 years for them to be signed. According to LaTavia. And they also had a feature on the Men in Black soundtrack. At this time Matthew brought producers like Wyclef Jean, Jermaine Dupri, and Master P.
Bringing in Producers like this means that you have officially certified yourself as a good artist. Because they are legends and they have worked with everyone in the Music industry. Destiny’s Child became a top selling group. And they also had won awards shows like Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, BET Awards. He also managed careers of Michelle Williams and also Kelly Rowland. The group members were then replaced by Farrah and Michelle. And LaTavia and LeToya find out they were being fired when they saw the Say My Name Music video. The song became such a big hit. So the original members missed out on hits. They had issues with Matthew Knowles and they ended up suing him.
And in 2002 he founded Spirit Rising Music. And had Artists like Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Brian Courtney Wilson, Juanita Bynum, Le’Andria Johnson, Micah Stampley, Amber Bullock, Andrea Helms, Trinitee 5:7, and Elder Goldwire. When it comes to the Music industry he knows and understands the business for it. He really knows how to maneuver his way when it comes to it. And he probably learned a lot when it comes to managing Destiny’s Child careers. And also the members as well. He then acquired the country music catalog Compadre. Which included people like Johnny Cash, Billy Joe Shaver, Trent Willmon, and Kate Campbell.
He also launched a Music imprint called Music World Kids. The label has included projects like Baby Jamz, Krazy Kuzins, Kid’s Rap Radio, and the Music World Kids CD 5-pack. He was also one of the executive producers for a movie called Obsessed. He was also the executive producer for The UK’s Chancers, and MTV International’s Breaking from Above. And in 2015 he released a book called The DNA of Achievers: 10 Traits of Highly Successful Professionals. In an interview he talked about wanting to teach about Entrepreneurship at college level. Having someone that has become successful makes a lot of sense. And it’s good that he teaches it.
In 2018 he joined the advisory board for Tunedly. Matthew has a lot of experience when it comes to the Music industry. And it’s natural he would always be selected when it comes to doing these jobs. Because he has a wonderful job when it comes to managing the careers of Destiny’s Child. And what he was able to do with them. That same year he released Destiny’s Child: The Untold Story Presents Girls Tyme it’s an album and he released a book called Destiny’s Child: The Untold Story. Many people would want to know more when it comes to Destiny’s Child.
There are so many things that people could learn. And in 2021 he released a podcast called Matthew Knowles Impact. And he revealed plans to retire from the Music industry. And in 2022 he sold Music World Entertainment Group to APX Capital Group. He also became a member of APX’s board of directors. He also released a book called The Matthew Knowles Story. This is a story of how Matthew Knowles guided Destiny’s Child into success. Of course it talks about himself and his career. And what he did. Matthew is also a visiting professor at Texas Southern University where he teaches courses in the Music industry.
At this time he was also managing his daughter Beyonce’s career. And he did it for 18 years. Until he was let go in 2011. And this was hard for Beyonce. Because this is someone that taught her a lot when it comes to the Music business. And having good work ethic. He even made Solange and Beyonce run while singing. So they wouldn’t run out of breath while performing. He was already preparing them for things that could happen. And this was before he even turned them into success. This just shows how sure he was when it comes to turning her career into a success. He was married to Tina in 1980.
She filed for divorce in 2009 and then refiled again in 2011. He then married Gena Avery. He also treated for breast cancer in 2019. And he was very public about it. He currently has 4 children. And 4 grandchildren. And he is 73 years old. This is someone that is very accomplished and has done everything under the sun when it comes to the Entertainment business. And he has done well when it comes to himself. When you look at his career. And the transition that he made. People shouldn’t be worried when it comes to a change. It can be such a good opportunity when it comes to change. It can be such a good idea.
He has grown a lot, he has taken risks. And he has achieved a lot of success. In the music business. His background in sales probably helped him. Because the music industry is all about sales and you need to know how to sell your music. And that can be really good. When it comes to having a corporate background. It can help you know how to make music that can sell all over the world. There is a lot of good things that have happened. When it comes to Music and the business of it. These type of careers are quite underrated being behind the scenes. And still getting the benefit of it. It’s real.
